Formation and History

Jayceeism among women in Cagayan de Oro City started when Marietta R. Saldana, who was then President of the Oro Jayceerettes attended the Philippine Jaycees National Convention in Cebu City on October 5-19, 1977. In that convention, she realized that young women were now admitted to the once an all-male Jaycee organization.

When she came back from the convention, she started to recruit young women by first tapping her own group, the Oro Jayceerettes. From this group, it extended to the community where career and professional women in private and government agencies were invited to join.

The first all-lady chapter in Mindanao was organized during its first formal organizational meeting held last March 4, 1978 at the VIP Hotel. It was attended by 20 ladies. A series of Commission in Action (CIA) seminars followed to acquaint and to orient each member of the roles they will have to perform in the community where they belong.

The next move was the selection of an appropriate name for the group. Finally, a name was chosen for its historical significance and its feminine character. The name chosen was Bai Lawanen which came from a legend.

Bai Lawanen Legend: For Love of A Woman

Legend has it that a long time ago, there was an impending war between the Bukidnon and Maguindanao tribes. The Chieftain of the Bukidnon clan sent his son, Bagani, to discuss the
rules of war with the Maguindanao Sultan. Upon so doing, Bagani saw the Sultan's beautiful daughter, BAI LAWANEN, whose smile charmed the young man. Bagani forgot all thoughts of war and fell in love with the young princess. Instead of fighting, he asked for the hand of the princess. Thus, the marriage of Bagani and Bai Lawanen averted the war of the tribes. Bai is a Muslim term for "princess" and Lawanen means "without equal".  Bai Lawanen therefore means "princess without equal".

Chapter Twinnings 2005

Twinning is the establishment of an on-going working relationship between two or more local Junior Chambers from different places, towns or cities and even countries. Twinning provides members with excellent opportunities to learn about other places and to discover the rich diversity of the worldwide Junior Chamber organization.

Our chapter has continually tapped into this opportunity as made available by the organization. We have enjoyed successful Twinning relationships with many chapters having implemented successful projects together, maintaining close contact with them, etc…

This year, the JCIP- Bai Lawanen has enjoyed chapter twinnings with the following chapters:

Did You Know That…

The JCIP- Bai Lawanen, Inc. has gone through twenty-eight years of being a successful Junior Chamber in Cagayan de Oro City.

            But did you know that…

-         JCIP- Bai Lawanen was a chapter extension of the Cagayan de Oro Jaycees?

-         After extending from Cagayan de Oro chapter, it became a mother chapter of another chapter, the Macajalar 24K?
